Story <\/strong>based on <\/strong>Luke 2:41-52<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Jesus at the Temple when he was twelve.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

He\u2019s twelve, it\u2019s a big event and he\u2019s a typical boy, or is he? He\u2019s drawn to what fascinates him the most \u2013 in this instance, the scriptures, the holy writings so special to his nation. They totally absorb him. They have parts of them back home but not the whole set, plus the rabbis here are far more learned. \u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

He is mesmerized by them.  Why shouldn\u2019t he be \u2013 after all they\u2019re in his blood? They flowed from him throughout the centuries and now they are reconnecting with his human brain and fireworks are exploding all around his head. It\u2019s like putting a 3D intergalactic jigsaw together. And the questions! They are shooting up so fast it\u2019s hard to keep up with answering them. Each answer sparks another set of questions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The rabbis find him amazing. Never have they met someone who was such a joy to teach. They\u2019re delighted to include him in their meal breaks and offer a spare bed for the night in the living quarters within the Temple.  He\u2019s so excited; he only catches a few hours sleep before he\u2019s up again, eager for more. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Time flies! It\u2019s not sunset again already is it? Ah well, Mum and Dad are around somewhere \u2013 not to worry. They\u2019ll find him when it\u2019s time to go home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another day flies by \u2013 then towards evening, two tired, anxious faces appear. What do they mean; they didn\u2019t know where he was? Where else would he be? He\u2019s hardly likely to be hanging out in the market place now is he?  Come on!!  Then comes the guilt trip bit.  \u2018How could you do this to us?\u2019  But he hadn\u2019t done anything! Deep breath \u2013 chill!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ok, well, he\u2019s sorry! Not that it\u2019s his fault of course but they\u2019re both a bit emotional and it\u2019s better to take the rap and calm things down than to argue about who\u2019s to blame. Sometimes it\u2019s more important to find a way to bring peace to a storm than to win the argument! Perhaps on the way home, when they\u2019ve had time to cool off a bit, they might realize that they had been overreacting just a bit. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Note: <\/strong>The wording can be easily adapted to suit your own group or culture, for example you may prefer to say, \u2018teachers\u2019 instead of \u2018rabbis\u2019, and \u2018shopping mall\u2019 instead of \u2018market place\u2019. It needs to sound like normal everyday language to the listener.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
